Packaged Desiccants

SilicaStar packaged desiccants are efficient silica gel, activated clay, or molecular sieves desiccants which will protect the contents of a properly sealed container until they are opened. The contents of a sealed container will be in the same condition as when packaged for shipment or storage. The larger size of bagged desiccants (8-80 units) are the new generation of transport protection for the reduction of dew point and control of condensation. It helps keep the dew point temperature below the actual temperature, even when the actual temperature drops within the shipping container due to day-to-night temperature fluctuations.

The barriers are dust-free, peel-free, water-resistant, tear-resistant, puncture-resistant, and chemical-resistant materials:

  • X-crepe Paper: polyethylene composite paper
  • OPP film: oriented polypropylene plastic
  • Sewn Bags: non-woven fabric rayon/polyester blend
  • Tyvek: made from very fine, high-density polyethylene fibers by DuPont. Good for ultra-clean applications, and the use of food-grade indicating silica for pharmaceutical or food powders.

Desiccant types include:

  • Silica Gel
  • Activated Clay
  • Molecular Sieves

Premium desiccants in highly porous, strong heat-sealed "unit" bags or "gram" bags meet MIL-D-3463E Type I & II Specifications. Fully customized desiccant packaging is available. Every component, from the desiccant itself, to the packaging materials, to the way these are integrated into the finished product, may be tailored to the user requirements. A unit is defined as the amount of desiccant that will adsorb at least 3g of water vapor at 20% relative humidity and at least 6g of water at 40% relative humidity at 77°F (25°C).
